Space Magnetic Probes Break High Altitude GPS Records

Four spacecrafts launched in 2015 called the Magnetospheric Multiscale are on a mission to study magnetic explosions in our planet’s magnetosphere.   When Earth’s magnetic field lines criss-cross and reconnect there is a bang and magnetic energy is unleashed. The process is called “magnetic reconnection, and it serves as a power source for geomagnetic storms.  These four crafts use GPS to coordinate at an altitude previously thought not possible.
