Mosquitos in the wild are turning up with plastic inside of them.
Finding this, scientists then tested 150 aquatic mosquito larvae. Each was fed a mixture of food and microplastic beads. 15 individuals were tested at random. The team found microplastics in all 15 individuals. On average, a larva contained over 3000 2-micrometre-wide beads.
The same continued into adulthood. Once they stopped consuming plastic, most were eventually excreted.
