Watch astronaut Tim Peake demonstrate how gyro-stabilisation is used to allow greater control on the International Space Station.
While huge congregations of these sharks are not out of the ordinary, they’re usually found much further south in Miami-Dade and the Ft. Lauderdale area. Biologist Dr. Stephen Kajiura, from Florida Atlantic University, helped document the en masse migration and is working on a tracking project to uncover the source of this behaviour change.

Researchers at University College London (UCL) have successfully created a new optical receiver that they believe is simple and cheap enough to produce and install on a large scale. The new technology uses a fraction of the components of existing tech, and could provide in-home data transmission rates of up to 10 Gb/s.

Removing immune cells, training them to attack cancer and then reintroducing them into the body has emerged as a promising approach to overcoming the deadly disease. And researchers are now reporting a significant advance in this area, with one early experiment on advanced blood cancer patients producing “unprecedented” response rates of more than 93 percent.

Researchers have engineered tiny gold particles that can assemble into a variety of crystalline structures simply by adding a bit of DNA to the solution that surrounds them. Down the road, such reprogrammable particles could be used to make materials that reshape themselves in response to light, or to create novel catalysts that reshape themselves as reactions proceed.

China’s nuclear fusion machine
Now physicists in China have announced that their own nuclear fusion machine, called the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST), has produced hydrogen plasma at 49.999 million degrees Celsius, and held onto it for an impressive 102 seconds.
